The University of Fort Hare (UFH) will soon begin its online application for admission into the 2025 academic session. If you are a high school leaver who wants to further their education at this institute, the time to apply is getting closer, start preparing now. The UFH 2025 application will begin on 1st July 2024. This article is made to help students with the application process.
Programmes Offered at UFH
Before enrolling to study at this university, you have to choose one of the programmes under any of the following six faculties:
- Education
- Health Sciences
- Management and Commerce
- School of Law
- Science and Agriculture
- Social Sciences and Humanities

UFH Application Entry Requirements
To be eligible for admission to degree study at the University of Fort Hare, applicants need to meet the minimum requirements for eligibility:
- Applicants holding a South African National Senior Certificate (NSC) must pass a minimum of 4 subjects at a rating of 4 (Adequate Achievement, 50-59%) or better in any four 20-credit NSC subjects.
- Applicants holding a South African Senior Certificate need matriculation endorsement.
- Declaration by Parent/Guardian for Minor Applicants must accompany all applications by prospective students under 18.
- Applicants holding non-South African school-leaving certificates must qualify for a matriculation exemption certificate. For more information regarding the evaluation of qualifications please visit the website of the Matriculation Board
Note that the closing date for all Undergraduate Qualifications is 30 November 2024 and no late applications will be accepted.

All UFH applicants are to pay a fee of R120 before proceeding with the online application process. You are to pay it into the following bank account and obtain a receipt that will be requested during your application.

How to Apply to the University of Fort Hare
- Visit the UFH application website
- Scroll to the bottom and click the ‘Apply Now’ button
- Complete your application and upload the required documents
- Submit your application
You may be required to submit the following documents during your application:
- Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate)
- Official tertiary academic record(s) (if applicable) (internet copies will not be accepted)
- ID document (RSA students) or ID/passport (for international students only)
- Marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable)
- Sworn translations of documents if they are not in English or Afrikaans
After completing your application process, you will have to wait till the whole application is completed. If you have been accepted, you will receive an SMS text or an E-Mail which will contain an admission letter, together with a registration guide the registration which will inform you of the registration dates and orientation programme.
