South African Weather Service Bursary 2023/2024

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) is inviting students to apply for their 2023/2024 bursary programme. About SAWS Bursary

The SAWS bursary will be awarded to students who are in the following fields of study/studying towards the following qualifications (B.Sc):

  • Agro-Meteorology
  • Meteorology
  • Atmospheric Science
  • Air Quality (Honours)
  • Climatology

This bursary programme will cover the following expenses for its recipients: registration, tuition fees and a monthly allowance. Once students have completed their undergraduate B.Sc qualification, they will be required to study a B.Sc Honours course, as the South African Weather Service only employ students with Honours level qualifications.

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be considered eligible for the SAWS bursary, you have to meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must have completed Matric
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics in Matric
  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 70% for Physical Science in Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study (first/ second/ third/ Honours year)
  • Your degree qualification must include Mathematics and Physical Sciences

The following documents will be requested from you during your application:

Certified copy of the latest academic transcript or record on official letterhead or logo
A one-page motivation/ covering letter
Certified copies of achievement / merit certificates
Certified copy of a valid South African identity document.
Applications received after the closing date will not be considered.

Closing Date

1st November 2023

The South African Weather Service will stop accepting applications for this bursary after that date so make sure you apply early, if you’re interested.
