Solar Capital Bursary 2024 – How to Apply

Solar Capital is inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. This bursary is open to students who reside within the Hantam district and are studying in an accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.

Solar Capital is dedicated to pioneering affordable solar electricity through innovative proprietary technology. They aim to become the world’s lowest-cost energy producer without compromising quality. Beyond profits, they construct solar farms that foster economic development and sustainable employment, uplifting communities while addressing social challenges.

This bursary is closing on 15 January 2024, so if you are interested in applying for it, make sure you apply early as late applications (after the closing date) will not be accepted.

About Solar Capital Bursary

This bursary is only for students from the Hantam Region (4 towns) which includes Nieuwoudtville, Loeriesfontein, Calvinia, and Brandvlei. There is no specific qualification so if you are from the regions mentioned above, and you are planning on studying towards any higher certificate, diploma, degree, or equivalent NQF-rated qualification, you can apply.

The Solar Capital Bursary covers the duration of its recipient’s degrees. the bursary also covers the following expenses for its recipients:

  1. Tuition fees: Institution of higher learning
  2. Rent: Institution (residence) or Landlord
  3. Books: Booksellers
  4. Laptop: Computer store
  5. Transport: Bus company/airline
  6. Living allowance: bursary beneficiary

Through its economic development projects, This company aims to create jobs, educate, generate and nurture enterprise development, and further social stability through community development in the communities with which we are involved.

Eligibility Criteria

For you to be considered eligible for the Solar Capital bursary, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be from the Hantam Region (4 towns): Nieuwoudtville, Loeriesfontein, Calvinia, Brandvlei
  • You must be studying Matric in 2023 or on a Gap year after Matric in 2022
  • You must have applied to study in 2024 or have already been accepted for registration in 2024.
  • You must be planning on studying full-time from 2024 onwards
  • You must be studying for any field/topic at a DHET/SAQA-recognized tertiary institution/university.
  • You must have an interest in renewable energy
  • You must be from a BBBEE Race (Black, Coloured, Indian, etc)
  • You must be unemployed (not working full or part-time in 2024),

How to Apply for the Solar Capital Bursary

  2. Scroll down to the “How to apply” section
  3. Click the “Click here to apply”  button
  4. Complete your application

Solar Capital requires to upload soft copies of the following supporting documents for your bursary application, so make sure you prepare them before beginning your application:

All Applicants: 

  1. A certified copy of a valid South African identity document
  2. Recent certified Parents/Guardian’s valid South African ID (or death certificate if deceased)*
  3. A CV of work experience and background (lack of experience will not disadvantage your application)
  4. Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) – Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*

All certified documents must be less than 3 months old. Where you have multiple documents for 1 submission, please combine/scan them into one file that you can upload.

Scholar in Matric:

  1. Grade 12 Term 2 Report (stamped) – With official school stamp

Scholar in Matric / Gap Year Student:

  1. Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)

Optional Documents

  1. Disability? Dept of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter *
  2. Did you get funded by another bursary/NSFAS?; upload your bursary agreement/letter/offer*
  3. A copy of the 2024 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. – Official letter showing you’ve been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2024*

For applicants under the age of 18 to comply with POPI regulations, a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required. You can download the guardian consent form by clicking HERE.
