SANZAF Zakah Bursary programme 2024

The South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) is now inviting South African students to apply for their 2024 bursary programme. This bursary is targeted at students who need financial aid, or those who are generally described as “poverty-stricken” individuals/families, i.e. the unemployed, those with menial or low-paying jobs and those with insufficient income.

This article will help you with your application by providing you with more information about the SANZAF bursary, its eligibility requirements, how to apply for the programme, and its opening and closing dates.

About SANZAF Bursary

The South African National Zakáh Fund (SANZAF) is a faith-based, socio-welfare and educational organisation that strives to facilitate the empowerment of needy families through the efficient collection and effective distribution of Zakáh and other Sadaqát in a proactive and cost effective way through projects – with dignity, sincerity and a shared responsibility. All in the service of the community and for the pleasure of Allah (SWT).

Take note of the following:

  • Interviews will be conducted and all applicants are to ensure that they are available on these dates.
  • All supporting documentation must be submitted. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • Candidates will receive feedback regarding application status as per regional office.
  • Successful applicants will receive a Confirmation of Pledge letter.
  • All payments will be made directly into the account of the institution.
  • Applicants must secure their own registration fees.
  • Students will not be entitled to withdraw any funds paid by SANZAF even if the balance is in their favour.
  • The information supplied in the application form is confidential. Where necessary some information will be made available to members of SANZAF.

Eligibility Requirements

You have to fulfill the following requifements for you to be considered eligible for the SANZAF bursary 2024.

  • You must be a South African OR a foreigner with study permit
  • You must have completed matric
  • You must be in need of financial aid
  • You must have been sponsored by either a family member, yourself, or sponsored by SANZAF last year
  • You must be either studying or willing to study at a University, University of Technology, or Technikon that’s recognised.
  • You must meet the SANZAF requirementrs

SANZAF recommends that you scan the following documents now, before proceeding with the application process:

  1. Matric results, if you intend on studying at a University for the first time ever, OR
  2. University results, if you were a student at a University, AND
  3. Proof of income of parent(s) AND/OR an affidavit if any of them are deceased / unemployed / etc.

The following documents might also be required, so get them ready:

  • ID document
  • Study permit for foreign students
  • A motivational letter explaining why you’re the best candidate for this bursary
  • Testimonial from the school you studied at

Note: The Bursary Committee will review and shortlist potential candidates. Interview dates, venues and time slots will be communicated via email.
