Industry Development Corporation (IDC) Bursary 2024 – How to Apply

About IDC Bursary

The Industrial Development Corporation is a national development finance institution owned by the government of South Africa, that provides youth enterprises, that are undertaking industrial development projects, with financial and non-financial support.

The IDC Bursary will cover the following expenses for its recipients: Tuition fees, Books related to the course, Accommodation, Meals, and Allowance. A laptop will also be provided.

Eligible Fields of Study

The IDC will be awarding bursaries to students who are currently studying/intend on studying full-time towards Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM qualifications), including Accounting/Financial Studies and Law. Studies in the following fields will be funded:

  • Agricultural Studies
  • Analytical Chemistry

  • Civil/Construction Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering

  • Financial Engineering
  • Geology (University of Technology leading to B. Tech)
  • Industrial Engineering

Applied Commercial Sciences:

  • BCom Accounting (CA)
  • BCom Information Systems
  • Computer Science

Bachelor of Law:

  • Commercial Law (BCom)

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be deemed eligible for the IDC bursary, you have to satisfy the following requirements:

  • You must be a resident of South Africa.
  • You must be a South African resident.
  • You must be between 16 – 25 years old.
  • You must have completed matric (or currently writing)
  • You must be pursuing a full-time undergraduate degree in one of the aforementioned fields, or you must plan to do so.
  • You must be enrolled in, or plan to enrol in, a South African public university, university of technology, or TVET college (the bursary will NOT cover studies at private institutions)
  • Graduate students: you must have earned a minimum grade of “B” in math and science, as well as a 75% overall average.
  • Graduate students: Your cumulative average must be at least 65%.
  • Those enrolled in tertiary education must have completed all of their courses.
  • You cannot receive any other funding from a scholarship or an employer.
  • You must demonstrate a need for assistance based on your household’s overall income.
  • Students who live in rural areas will be prioritised.

How to Apply for the IDC Bursary

  1. Visit the bursary portal
  2. Click the sign up button (if you’re a new user)
  3. After registering, login with your details and begin your application
  4. Submit the required documents

Required Documents

  • Identity card (certified copy)
  • Final grades for grade 11 and, if you are a current Matric student, June results (certified copies)
  • Certificate of completion for Matric (certified copy)
  • If not studying this year, the most recent academic results (certified copy)
  • Complete tertiary academic record, if you’re still in school (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance or conditional admission to a university or college (on institutions letterhead)
  • The guardians or parents an affidavit or the most recent audited financial statements if you are self-employed, latest pay stubs if you are employed, a death certificate if you are deceased, a divorce certificate if you are divorced, or a sworn statement, if you are separated, are all acceptable forms of proof of income. Closing Date
