Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Bursary 2024 – Apply Now

Elias Motsoaledi local municipality is now inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. This bursary is targeted at tertiary institution students residing within the municipality.

Situated within the Sekhukhune District Municipality of Limpopo, the Elias Motsoaledi Municipality was previously known as the Greater Groblersdal Local Municipality before being changed to what it is today. The Municipality was named after Elias Motsoaledi, a South African anti-apartheid activist who played an active role in establishing the South African Congress of Trade Unions. Today, Elias Motsoaledi municipality has a vision to become the agro-economical and ecotourism heartland of the country.

About Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality Bursary

The municipal council is giving out two types of bursaries; The first one is available to students studying any course at any tertiary institution in South Africa and has a maximum value of R10,000. The second one is the mayor’s bursary, which is open to students studying towards a qualification within one of the following fields of study:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Finance
  • Public Administration/ Management
  • Town Planning

The bursaries will cover the following expenses for its recipients: Registration fees, Tuition fees, Textbooks or any prescribed study materials, and Meals and accommodation.

Eligibility Criteria

For an applicant to be considered eligible for the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality bursary, they must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must reside within the Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, in Limpopo province
  • Must have completed Matric with a strong academic record
  • Must intend on studying within one of the fields of study listed above, in 2024
  • Must have been accepted/ provisionally accepted to study at a public institution of higher learning in South Africa (University, University of Technology or TVET College)

Note that preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students and students in financial need.

To apply you can either download and print the bursary application form (.doc) online or pick one of the physical copies from the:

  • Main Office (2 Grobler Avenue, Groblersdal, 0470)
  • as well as Satellite Offices (in Hlogotlou, Motetema, Roossenekal and Uitspanning) (between 07:30 and 16:15)

Fill out the form and attach the following supporting documents to it before submitting:

  • Identity document
  • Proof of residence from the Tribal Authority/ Local Municipality
  • Proof of income of parents or affidavit if there is no income
  • A recent statement of results
  • Proof of acceptance letter from the institution of higher learning
  • Written proof of cost of intended studies
