City Power Johannesburg (SOC) Limited, established in 2001, is a municipal-owned entity under the City of Johannesburg. Its primary mission is to provide electricity access to all residents within the city.
As a key service provider to one of Africa’s largest metropolitan areas, City Power ensures reliable electricity supply to households, businesses, and industries. What the Bursary Covers
City Power is inviting applications for its 2025 bursary programme! If you’re a student living within the City of Johannesburg’s service area in Gauteng, this could be your chance to shine.
Bursaries are available for the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current/Light Current)
- Environmental Health Management
- Information Technology
- Risk Management
Key Details
- Focus on Female Applicants: 70% of the bursaries will go to women, with the remaining 30% for men.
- Application Feedback: If you don’t hear back within two months of the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.
- Additional Checks: Shortlisted candidates will go through various checks, including qualification verification, criminal record checks, and references. Psychometric assessments may also be required.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, you’ll need to meet these criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Live in the City of Johannesburg’s service area (Gauteng province).
- Have completed Matric with at least a “C” (60%) and meet the admission requirements of your chosen institution.
- Be enrolled in or planning to study an undergraduate qualification in one of the specified fields.
- Be studying or accepted at a recognized South African tertiary institution (university, university of technology, or TVET college).
- Have achieved at least 60% average in your current studies.
Preference is given to students attending institutions in Gauteng, but applications from other regions are also welcome.

- Prepare Your Documents: Include certified copies of:

- Proof of acceptance at a recognized institution
- Submit Your Application:
