Armscor Bursary Application 2024: How to Successfully Apply

Armscor is now inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. This bursary was created for South African students who are pursuing qualifications in certain engineering, science, and mathematics fields of study.

The Armaments Corporation of South Africa SOC Limited (Armscor) serves as the agency responsible for acquiring military equipment and supplies on behalf of the South African Department of Defence (DOD) and other organs of state and entities. Renowned for its acquisition expertise, the organisation focuses on producing research and vanguard technological solutions required to provide safety and security for South Africa, its citizens, and the continent.

This bursary is closing/will stop accepting applications on 2nd February 2024, so if you are interested in applying, this article will teach you how to apply.

About Armscor Bursary

This bursary is brought to you by Armscor, in partnership with the Defense industry, and it aims to solve the lack of critical science and engineering skills in the defence industry. The bursary will be awarded to students pursuing a degree in one of the following courses:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Biochemistry
  • Chemistry and Physics
  • Computer Science
  • Electronics / Electrical Engineering (Light Current)
  • Human Kinetics & Ergonomics Science
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Naval/ Marine Engineering

the bursary will cover the following expenses for its recipients: tuition fees, study materials, accommodation, meals, allowances, and vacation work (where available).

Eligibility Criteria

For an applicant to be considered eligible for the Armscor bursary, he/she must meet up with the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be currently in Matric (in 2023) or have completed Matric
  • Must be studying or intend on studying full time, towards an undergraduate or postgraduate degree within one of the fields listed above, in 2024
  • Must be studying or accepted to study at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must be interested in pursuing a career within the defence industry
  • Must have a strong academic record
  • Must have achieved a minimum result of 70% for Mathematics. Physical Science, and English in Matric.
  • Must be from a previously disadvantaged background

How to Apply for the Armscor Bursary

If you are ready to apply, download the Armscor bursary application form 2024, fill it out completely, and submit it via Email or Post. The following supporting documents are to be submitted alongside your completed application form:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Matric mid-year results (if currently in Matric) OR Matric certificate (if you have completed Matric)
  • Full academic record, if currently studying
  • Proof of registration/acceptance into a tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Certified copies of your parent’s or guardian’s ID documents
  • Parent’s or guardian’s proof of income (latest payslips or employment letter if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ affidavit if an informal trader/ proof of SASSA grant if applicable/ death certificate if deceased)
  • Covering letter, stating the following: your field of study and what motivated you to choose to study in your field
