Alfred Nzo District Municipality Bursary South Africa 2024

The Alfred Nzo district municipality is now inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. The bursary is targeted at students who study scarce and critical skills and reside in the Alfred Nzo municipal area.

Alfred Nzo District Municipality is located on the north-eastern side of the Province of the Eastern Cape and stretches from the Drakensberg Mountains, borders Lesotho in the North, Sisonke District Municipality in the East and O.R. Tambo District Municipality in the South. The Municipality is named after Alfred Baphethuxolo Nzo, who was a secretary-general of the ANC (African National Congress) and a minister of foreign affairs in Nelson Mandela’s cabinet from 1994 to 1999.

About the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Bursary

This bursary will be awarded to students residing within the area and studying towards a qualification in one of the following scarce and critical skills fields of study:

  • Community Water Services and Sanitation (BSc)
  • Disaster Management (National Diploma/ Degree)
  • Environmental and Water Science (BSc)
  • Geographic Information System (National Diploma/ Degree)
  • Graphic Art/ Design (National Diploma/ Degree)
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT) (National Diploma)
  • Maritime Engineering (National Diploma)
  • Mechanical Engineering (National Diploma/ Degree)
  • Water and Science Technology (National Diploma)
  • Water Resource Management (BSc)

Eligibility Criteria

For an applicant to be considered eligible for the Alfred Nzo district municipality bursary, he/she must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen residing within the Alfred Nzo jurisdiction area, in the Eastern Cape Province
  • Must be between 16 and 35 years old
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have a strong academic record
  • Must intend on studying towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above, in 2024
  • Must intend to study at a recognised tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Must be in financial need

Note that preference for this bursary will be given to disadvantaged students.

How to Apply for the Alfred Nzo District Municipality Bursary

Download the Alfred Nzo district municipality bursary 2024 application form and print it out, or obtain a physical copy from ANDM offices and local municipalities (within Mbizana, Ntabankulu, umzimvubu and Matatiele) and Ward Councilors. Fill out the form and attach copies of the following documents to it:

  • ID document (certified copy)
  • Matric final results/ certificate (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance to study at a recognised tertiary institution (certified copy)
  • Proof of residence from your Ward Councillor
  • Parent’s proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed/ proof of sassa grant or pension if applicable/ death certificate if deceased)
  • Motivational letter indicating why you should be considered for the bursary

Selected recipients will receive feedback by 29 February 2024 at the latest. If you do not receive any feedback by this time, it means your application was not successful. Applications must be posted to the following address (emailed applications will not be accepted):

Closing Date

Applications for the Alfred Nzo district municipality bursary 2024 will close on 16th February 2024. Any application submitted after this date will be rejected, so to avoid such an issue, make sure you apply early enough.
