ADSA Bursary Programme 2024 – How to Apply

The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is now inviting students to apply for their 2024 bursary programme. This is a medical bursary made to assist undergraduate students who are in need of financial assistance with their studies.

About ADSA Bursary

The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is the professional organisation for Registered Dietitians in South Africa. The association was set up to promote the nutritional well-being of the communities in South Africa and to protect the interests of Dieticians in the country,

The ADSA bursary will be awarded to first year (entering into second year) undergraduate students who are into dietetics studies. The bursary will provide cover for the remaining 3 years of study – from 2nd to 4th year of study.

The bursary will provide partial cover (up to the value of R30 000 each year), for the following expenses: registration fees, textbooks, accommodation and other expenses. Funding will be paid directly to the university. Free ADSA student membership will be given to the recipients of the award for the duration of the bursary.

After graduation, bursary recipients will be required to work in South Africa, for at least 3-4 years, depending on the duration of the bursary received (this excludes community service year). Bursary recipients must also be an active member of ADSA at their local branch for the same period.

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be considered eligible for the ADSA bursary, you must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African
  • Must be in financial need
  • Must be an undergraduate studying towards a Dietetics degree
  • Must be in your 1st year of study (or have completed your 1st year) and be entering your 2nd year in 2024
  • Must be passionate about food science and health issues
  • Must have strong leadership skills with participation in school

How to Apply for ADSA Bursary

If you are ready to apply for this bursary, visit the webpage adsa.org.za/bursary-application/ and begin your application. You will be required to submit copies of the following supporting documents:

  • Motivation letter.
  • Certified copy of applicant ID.
  • Certified copies of applicant’s latest academic results.
  • Certified proof of family income ( payslips, pension receipts, affidavit if parents unemployed.
    If applicable, certified copy of death certificate of parent/s)
  • Any other supporting documents e.g. reference letters, proof of employment etc.

NOTE: If end of year results are not available please send the most up-to-date results (June examinations/ year marks)

Closing Date

ADSA will stop accepting applications for this bursary programme by 8th December 2023, so endeavour to apply early enough so you don’t miss out on this opportunity.
