AIMS Google DeepMind Scholarship 2024 – Apply Now

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (South Africa) now invites students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. Forty students will be selected for the 2024 intake, and each will be supported at AIMS with a full Google DeepMind scholarship.

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (South Africa) is an institution located in the vibrant suburb of Muizenberg in Cape Town. Popularly dubbed the “ monastery of Mathematics”, AIMS South Africa was founded as a partnership project between the following local and international universities: the University of Cambridge, University of Cape Town, University of Oxford, Université de Paris Sud XI, Stellenbosch University and the University of the Western Cape. The institute offers a one-year residential programme which will obtain you a Master’s degree in Mathematical Science.

About the AIMS Scholarship

  • flights to and from South Africa
  • Tuition
  • Accommodation
  • Living expenses
  • Medical insurance
  • Costs for running AI experiments and doing research.

Recipients of the AIMS will also have the opportunity to connect with DeepMind’s researchers and engineers for mentoring and support.

  • Be a citizen of any African country
  • Be a resident in Africa at the time of application

How to Apply for the AIMS Scholarship

The application and selection process for the AIMS scholarship is divided into two rounds; online selection and interview. For the online selection, register at apply.aims.ac.za and upload the following documents:

  • Your curriculum vitae
  • A motivation letter of around 500 words
  • Academic transcripts
  • Written mathematics questions (to be found on the application site)
  • Coding problem (to be found on the application site)

The online application includes twelve short mathematics questions and one coding problem. Don’t take this as an exam because it isn’t one, rather, have it at the back of your mind that the answers you provide will give the selection panel some insight into how you approach problems. The final application round consists of short online interviews in April 2024.

Closing Date/Deadline

Applications for the AIMS Scholarship 2024 will close after 11:59 PM on 29 March 2024. A full application can’t be completed at the last minute, so interested students are required to apply early.
