Silulumanzi Bursary Programme 2024

Silulumanzi is now inviting students to apply for their bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. This bursary is targeted at South African students studying towards a qualification which is applicable within the water industry.

Silulumanzi is a subsidiary of South African Water Works (SAWW) and is a private provider of quality water and wastewater services within the City of Mbombela Local Municipality (CoMLM). Each day, the company makes use of the latest technology and trained staff to provide over 400,000 residents with more than 120 million litres of safe drinking water.

About Silulumanzi Bursary

Recipients of this bursary are awarded for one year at a time and it is renewable each year, depending on your academic performance. The bursary will provide you with your registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, study materials and accommodation.

Once these recipients have graduated, they will be required to join Silulumanzi as an Intern. The internship duration will be equal to the duration of bursary funding received i.e if Silulumanzi supported your schooling for four years, you will have to do four years of internship with the company.

For you to be eligible for application, you must be studying towards one of the following qualifications:

  • Biology (BSc)
  • Chemical Engineering (BSc)
  • Civil Engineering (BSc)
  • Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current/ Light Current) (BSc)
  • Environmental Science (National Diploma)
  • Fitter and Turner
  • Fitting (including Machinery)
  • Information Technology (BSc)
  • Instrumentation Mechanical
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc)
  • Millwright
  • Quantity Survey (BSc)
  • Water Care (National Diploma)

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be considered eligible for the Silulumanzi bursary programme, you must meeet up with the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric (in 2023) or have completed Matric with a Bachelors pass
  • You must have achieved a minimum of Level 6 for Mathematics and Science in Matric
  • You must be studying or intend on studying full-time towards one of the undergraduate qualifications listed above
  • You must be studying or have been accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • You must be interested in joining the Water Industry
  • You must have a strong academic record

Preferences will be given to:

  • Females students, previously disadvantaged individuals and students with disabilities
  • South African citizens who reside within the above contractural concession areas (Mbombela city/ Nelspruit, KaNyamazane, Tekwane, Matsulu, KaMagugu, Msogwaba, Daantjie, Zwelisha, Mpakeni, Luphisi, Mattafin)

How to Apply for the Silulumanzi bursary

If you are read to begin your application, download and fill in the Silulumanzi Bursary Application Form 2024. You are required to attach the following documentation to this application:-

  • Applicant’s Birth Certificate and identity document
  • Applicant’s Grade 12 certificate or proof of highest level of education acquired
  • The previous year’s examination results.
  • Any supplementary examination results, where applicable.
  • Proof of registration at University/College/Technikon / School.
  • Statement/account/invoice/receipt from the University/Technikon /College/School concerned to show the cost of study (where not posible, an estimate of these costs). This must be done in writing. Education Committee to assist in this regard where necessary.
  • Family income or an affidavit parents are unemployed
  • Admission letter

Note: The company may use additional measures such as house visits, welfare workers assessment or other means to verify a candidate’s previously as advantaged and/or economic status

Closing Date

Silulumanzi will stop accepting applications for this bursary after 15th December 2023, So if you are interested in applying, make sure you do so on or, preferably, before the closing date.
