Magalies Water Bursary 2024: How to Successfully Apply

Magalies Water is now inviting students to apply for their bursary for the 2024 academic year. This bursary is targeted at South African students who are studying towards a STEM, water care, or accounting qualification.

About Magalies Water Bursary

Magalies Water Board was created in 1969 primarily to supply the water needs of platinum mines in the Rustenburg and Thabazimbi areas. The board provides water for industries and communities, and in 1996 it extended its water supply services to operate, maintain and supply retail water to select local municipalities and the City of Tshwane Metropolitan.

Students in the following fields of study can appy for this bursary programme:

  • Biotechnology or Microbiology (Bachelors Degree/ Diploma NQF6)
  • Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry (Bachelors Degree/ Diploma NQF6)
  • Civil Engineering (Bachelors Degree/ Diploma NQF6/ N4-N6)
  • Electrical Engineering (Bachelors Degree/ Diploma NQF6/ N4-N6)
  • Financial Accounting (Bachelors Degree)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Bachelors Degree/ Diploma NQF6/ N4-N6)
  • Water Care (Advance Diploma/ Diploma NQF6)

three bursaries will be awarded for each of the following fields, except Financial accounting which was reduced to two, making twenty bursaries to be awarded.

Eligiblity Requirements

For a student to be considered eligible for the Magalies Water bursary, he/she must be able to satisfy the following requirements:

  • Must be a South African
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in Grade 12
  • Must be studying or intend on studying full time, towards one of the qualifications listed above, in 2024
  • Must be studying or intend on studying at a registered and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa

Note that during final selection, preferences will be given to female candidates, previously disadvantaged candidates and people with disabilities.

How to Apply for Magalies Water Bursary

When you are ready to apply, download the Bursary application form 2024, fill in your information and submit it to. You will be required to attach the following documents to your application form:

  • ID documents (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 and Matric results (if currently in Matric) (certified copy)
  • Matric certificate, if completed Matric (certified copy)
  • Latest academic transcript or record on official letterhead or logo (if you are already at a
    tertiary institution) (certified copy)
  • Provisional acceptance letter from the university

Selected applicants for the Magalies Water bursary will be contacted within 60 days from the closing date. Please accept that your bursary application has been unsuccessful if you weren’t contacted.

Closing Date

30th November 2023
