FirstRand Foundation Trust Undergraduate Bursary 2024 – How to Apply

FirstRand Foundation Trust is now inviting students to apply for their annual bursary programme for the 2024 academic year. This bursary funds undergraduate degree programmes in either commerce, engineering, science, and technology fields of study.

About FirstRand Trust Bursary

In 1998, FirstRand Limited founded the FirstRand Foundation as its official platform. This foundation served as a conduit for the corporate social investments of its key subsidiaries including WesBank, RMB, and FNB. The foundation makes donations to public benefit organisations.

FirstRand Foundation bursary will cover the following expenses: Tuition fees, accommodation, meals, learning resources, a monthly stipend, and a computer for first-year students. The foundation will be awarding bursaries to Commerce, engineering, science and technology degree programmes majoring in the following disciplines:

Commerce: accounting, economics, financial management, law, risk.

Engineering: all specialisations.

Science:  actuarial science, agricultural sciences, biosciences, climate sciences, data science, electronics, environmental sciences, indigenous knowledge systems, mathematical sciences, physics, renewable energy, society and sustainability, statistics.

Technology: business information systems, computer science, information management, information systems, information science, information technology.

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be considered eligible for the FirstRand Foundation Trust bursary, you must meet the following selection criteria:

  • You must be a Black South African citizen
  • You must must have obtained a minimum of level 5 for Mathematics in Grade 12
  • You must must not be older than 21 years in your first year of study
  • You must have applied for and been provisionally admitted into a South African public traditional university for fulltime studies in one  of the degrees stated above
  • You must currently be in Grade 12 or have completed Grade 12 not more than 3 years ago
  • Applicants must belong to the so-called missing middle – and be able to prove that their combined annual gross family income is between R350,000 and R600,000

How to Apply for FirstRand Foundation Trust bursary

Applications must be completed on StudyTrust’s online application platform. You will be required to submit copies of the following documents during your application:

  • South African ID (certified)
  •  A full academic record including the latest available results (June 2023 examination results or progress report)
  • Official Matric/NSC results if you have completed Grade 12 or final Grade 11 results and June 2023 report card for current Gr 12s.
  •  Proof of income: The combined annual household income will be a critical consideration in the selection process. It is essential that proof of income for both parents (if applicable) be uploaded. This could be:
    • Salary or wage slips of the parent(s) or guardian(s)
    • An affidavit from the parent(s) or guardian(s) stating that they are unemployed or self-employed. If they are self-employed, the affidavit must state their annual income.
    • Most recent audited financial statement or three months’ most recent bank statements if the parent(s) or guardian(s) own a business
    • SASSA letter stating the grants received in the household where applicable
    • Death certificate(s) if parent(s) are deceased
    • Letter from the court stating child support amounts if parents are divorced or an affidavit from the parent stating the child support amount received if parents are separated
  •  A clear head and shoulders picture.
