About The Hexagon Trust Bursary

The Hexagon Trust is a non-profit organization whose main aim is to provide funding opportunities to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Trust has touched the lives of more than 18,000 students since operations began in 1987.

This Bursary Programme will be awarding only undergraduate students who study a course within Commerce, Engineering, and Science fields of study. The bursaries will be awarded based on academic performance, finiancial need and other criterias.

The Hexagon Trust Bursary will cover the following school expenses for its recipients: registration fees, tuition fees and a textbook allowance.

Eligibility Requirements

For you to be considered eligible for this bursary, you must have satisfied the following requirements:

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • You must be studying a course that is in the Commerce, Engineering, or Science Field
  • You must have registered at one of the following tertiary institutions in South Africa:

  • You must have proven financial need
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must be entering their first year of academic study
  • You must be committed to developing your community
  • You are required to have a minimum overall average of “C”

How to Apply for The Hexagon Trust Bursary

  1. Register an account with Hexagon Trust
  2. After registering, you can login and begin your application
  3. You will be required to upload copies of the following documents:
    • ID document (certified copy)
    • Passport sized photograph
    • Matric June 2023 exam results, if currently in Matric (certified copy)
    • Matric final results, if completed Matric (certified copy)
    • Acceptance letter from your tertiary institution (on institutions letterhead)
    • Parents or guardians proof of household income (payslip if employed/ sworn affidavit if unemployed)
    • Motivational letter including your family background, scholastic career and future plans.
    • Letter of recommendation from your school principal

After you have submitted your online bursary application, you will be receiving updates via email or phone. Alternatively, you can always check the status of your application by login into the portal. You will get one of the following messages:

  • Draft – this means your application is incomplete and has not been submitted yet.
  • Application Incomplete –  This means your application is either incomplete and missing information or you have clicked save but have not yet submitted your application.
  • Pending – This means your application has been submitted and will be processed soon.
  • In Review – This means your application has been submitted and is being reviewed to see if you qualify.
  • Shortlisted – This means your application has passed stage 1 of the review process and you may be invited to attend an interview.
  • Application Unsuccessful – This means you have not been selected to receive a bursary award.
  • Application Successful – This means you have been selected to receive a bursary award. Congratulations!

Closing Date

The Hexagon Trust will stop accepting applications for this bursary after 31st December 2023. Any application after this date will be rejected so make sure you apply on time.
